Once upon a time: There was a young man named Alexander. On the outside he looks like a normal boy but he has unusually small ears.
Every day: he would go about his life as any young boy would. He would play games, go to school, eat and sleep.
What else: Alexander had one issue though, he was often quick to make assumptions about others. He has wanted to have a best friend for a long time but he had not been successful because of judging what people were like before he had a chance to know them.
Until one day: his situation got even worse, as he went to sleep with normal sized ears and woke up with really small ears and all of a sudden he could hear everything all over the world.
What else: This was a lot for him to take in at first, but then he learned how to focus on one thing at a time and this allowed him to not be overwhelmed by what he was able to hear.

Because of that: He started to listen to all kinds of conversations and he heard what people really thought about him. They thought he was judgmental and not very friendly or outgoing.
Until one day: A new kid moved into the neighborhood. This kid was named Daniel and he needed to make new friends. He had moved from far away.
What else: Alexander started to make assumptions about the way that Daniel was dressed as it was different from the way that kids around him dressed.
Because of that: When Alexander had a chance to introduce himself to Daniel, he said a few things that he ought not to have said. He said to Daniel, “My name is Alexander, you just moved in? From where have you moved? We haven’t had any kids with strange clothing move into our neighborhood before.” Alexander knew that Daniel spoke a few other languages, yet he started to speak to Daniel in a really loud and slow way as if Daniel could not understand him.
What else: Daniel’s feelings were hurt by what Alexander said about him having strange clothing and also by him thinking that he couldn’t understand him when he spoke. He said aloud and to himself “Why would Alexander assume that I didn’t understand his language?”
Because of that: Even Daniel started to avoid Alexander. He didn’t feel like he was very kind and he didn’t like how Alexander spoke like he was better than he was.
What else: Alexander noticed that nobody wanted to be around him still and he figured it was because of the way that he mistreated others.
Until finally: He determined that he would watch what he said to others and treat everyone kindly and not assume things about people before he got a chance to know them
And since then: Alexander has many good friends and finally a best friend and his name is Daniel.
Moral: In order to make good friends we have to sometimes make adjustments in our treatment of others. If we can’t make or keep good friends, we need to look at the reason why. The answer may be a lot closer to home than we think.
