Once upon a time a cruise ship employee named Bernard Bittermelonsen was… Why here he is now, trying to make small talk. But oh, he’s got to get back to work and cross this giant crowd to serve the patrons of the cruiseship. And they’re rude. Like rude rude. But Bernard tries to keep his cool.
Luckily for Bernard his days as a cruise ship employee were about end because the ship sinks. And suddenly, Bernard was lost at sea. Some would even say he was….deserted.
Days turned into weeks and the weeks blended into months and then back into days again for a littpe bit. Bernard truly began to find comfort in his despair, he lived up to his bitter family name.
Until one day he washed up on an island. He was saved! But he quickly realized that he was actually doomed because he had 0 survival skills. Is…is that a ship? Bernard might be…oh…nevermind.
He soaks in this new world and watches the stars. “I can’t die here” Bernard says to himself. “I have so much I need to do…No one’s built a statue of me yet…I must survive!”
So Bernard decides he needs to focus on surviving. He does what he must to feed himself. Like eat literal tall grass.Hmm is that something in the shadows? Why, they’re dessert creatures! Hey that’s Crisselda Croissant and she’s watching Bernard…
Bernard builds a shelter for himself. Looks good to him. But…oh yeah….not really that effective when it comes to the rain.
Bernard gets really desperate and resorts to eating bugs. Crisselda is in awe that Bernard is surviving out here, he’s not even being sweet - she says. She’s also surprised because he was eating poisonous bugs.
As Bernard slept off the poison, the creatures decided to help him. Because he would surely parish within the coming days.
When Bernard Awoke, he was startled by the dessertlings and thought he had died and they were all demons. But after some convincing. Crisselda Croissant talks Bernard down and gives him the run down of the Dessert kingdom.
They’re ruled by a king! And the king protects everyone because like everyone knows, if you stay sweet, you’ll be safe on your feet. But really that means if you’re not sweet you’re….SKRRRRKKK
But then I saw you and…you weren’t sweet. Yet you survived.
Bernard interrupts her and says “I accept. I will teach you to be bitter, it’s not healthy to bottle your feelings up like that.” Crisselda doesn’t believe he can do it.
Bernard tries to teach dessertlings about other feelings that aren’t being sweet and happy.
His efforts only really start to work when he starts taking his ideas outside. He happens upon an accident where a shopkeep is forced to accept that some guy fell and destroyed his stand. Bernard tells the shopkeep to let his emotions go…
Heads start to turn. Bernard can feel the energy from the people watching him. He even brings Crisselda on stage to show the people that if she can get angry, so can they! They’re all inspired…look at em…
Crisselda is a little hesitant as hordes of dessertlings break off and start to let years of pent up emotions loose.
Because of that the dessertlings begin to disagree with the way they lived their lives and some side with Bernard and the others with the king. Things get heated….Woah look at that crazy action…wow did that beignet just…oh noo look that red bean bun is going to…woow such crazy good and expensive CGI!
Until finally… Oh no! Criselda Croissant is somehow accidentally hurt in a curfuffle between the Bernard supporters and those loyal to the king.
Bernard urges everyone to stop. When they notice a child has been hurt…they all put listen. Bernard’s point is proven, everyone just now…they were unleashing their fury. They shouldn’t live in a world where they can express themselves. Because look what happens. Everyone agrees…they felt the rage that fuelled their fighting….and they didn’t like the outcome.
Crisselda, Bernard and the King have a secret meeting to discuss terms. From that meeting, a council is formed where a judge is voted in to uphold justice and the liberty to feel whatever emotions they want.
After the ceremony, Crisselda brings Bernard up a mountain for a surprise. They built a statue of him because Bernard decided to live with the dessertlings for ever. This truly was his new home because he’ll never feel deserted ever again. The end.
