ACT 1
Sam is a young artist who seemingly has his first shot at fame- his first ever art exhibition which happens to be visited by his favorite artist. He has a chance encounter with a stranger in a trench coat which bestows upon him a medallion with powers to travel to the 'Imaginary plane' ; That houses the source of ALL imagination.
Sam fails to impress at his first exhibition and falls in the doldrums. In a moment of sadness and disappointment, he decides to destroy all his work. This cocktail of emotions causes the medallion to transport Sam to the imaginary plane, where his art works are brought to life.
ACT 2
He meets Sir Gregory, one of his earliest childhood drawings, who accompanies him on a journey to find his way back home. The duo encounter 'lion', a barking lion, brainchild of a 5-year-old Sam. The group then get captured by some of Sam's drawings that despise him. They manage to escape and believe that all the dangers are behind them, and the exit is within view, but Sam's selfish ambition leads them down a detour. Sam uses his drawing skills to create a fake map that leads to the Citadel, a castle hanging precariously on a steep mountain that powers the imaginary plane. Within it, the group find a glowing blue sphere that generates imagination.
Sam decides to steal the sphere and unknowingly invokes the wrath of its guardians, two large monsters that have the ability to cull all imagination. The group tries to escape but the monsters are quickly catching up to them. Sir Gregory and lion notice this and sacrifice themselves to buy Sam time to get to the exit. This decision breaks Sam's heart
ACT 3
Sam returns to his world, filled with disappointment and sadness. This was different from his earlier feeling as he knows somewhere deep down that he had brought it on himself and led to the demise of his childhood friends. Sam can't sleep and decides to paint. He creates an artwork that absolutely stuns everyone in the gallery, but Sam doesn't care. He has lost something much greater.
While sulking, Sam spots the stranger who had left the medallion and begins to follow. Sam in his usual eager and impatient fashion fails to be silent and alerts the stranger. The stranger then reveals herself to be a Muse, a traveller between the real and imaginary plane but she can’t return home as Sam has her medallion. Sam is very apologetic and tells her what he had done, then returns the medallion. The muse tells him how to get his friends back and transports him to the imaginary plane. Sam returns to the imaginary plane. It looks different; empty, most of it in ruin. The monsters Sam had brought unto the plane had ravaged everything, in search of the sphere. Sam finds the hideout of the survivors and delivers a heartfelt speech that rally's everyone to the citadel. He plans to return the sphere with the help of his drawings. Sam succeeds and Sir Gregory and lion are brought back to life.
MORAL
Ever since then, Sam has learnt to cherish all his drawings, even the ones that don't turn out as planned.
